The Patient Journey with Stripe Payments
This flow outlines what a patient will see for pre-payment and post payment bookings on the Healthengine website, or via widget/OBS for your practice with Payments enabled. For guidance on setting up payments, please view the relevant article here.
Pre-payment Patient Experience
- A patient starts by selecting their preferred appointment time or practitioner on the Healthengine network or on your practice's OBS.
- The patient then enters their appointment details regarding who the appointment is for, and if they are a new or existing patient.
- When pre-payment is enabled, the price will show next to the appointment type. If no payment method is enabled, there is no price shown.
- Once an appointment type is picked, the patient is asked to enter the booking details.
- Once the patient has entered their relevant details, they proceed to the payment page.
- A patient enters their credit card details, and clicks “Pay and book now”
- If the appointment is pre-payment, the fee is taken immediately from the patients account, and their booking is only confirmed once the fee has been secured. This happens almost instantaneously.
- If the appointment is post payment, Stripe does not take a fee but does check that the card is valid and able to make payments, and saves these details again the booking for future charging.
The Post Payment Flow
- A patient starts by selecting their preferred appointment time or practitioner on the Healthengine network or on your practice's OBS.
- The patient then enters their appointment details regarding who the appointment is for, and if they are a new or existing patient.
- When post-payment or no payment collection type is enabled, there is no price shown, since these prices are set post appointment and are subject to change at the practice's discretion.
- Once an appointment type is picked, the patient is asked to enter the booking details.
- Once the patient has entered their relevant details, they proceed to the payment page.
- A patient enters their credit card details, and clicks “Confirm and book now”
- If the appointment is post payment, Stripe does not take a fee at the time of the booking, but does check that the card is valid and able to make payments. Once a card is verified, these details are saved against the booking for future charging when the appointment has been attended.
