How can I request a Medical Certificate? How do I know if my Practice offers them?
If your practice has enabled the Medical Certificate Product with Healthengine, an option will appear on the practice's profile "Book Appointment" menu that says "Online Medical Certificate". Clicking this button will take you directly to the Medical Certificate request form.
You might also have received a notification via SMS and/or email that your practice now has this service available.
If you have added your practice to your My Care Team, there is also a prompt next to their profile so you can easily access the Medical Certificate request page.
What does the request process look like?
If you click the request Medical Certificate button, you are taken to a request flow. The first page you see is the Practice's Medical Certificate policy page. This is where the practice communicates various policies and information to you based on how they approve and action Medical Certificate. Each practice can have a different policy.
Clicking "Continue" takes you to the overview page, where you can see how much the Medical Certificate will cost you if it is approved, and how long the approval process is.
If you Agree, you are then taken to the Medical Certificate questionnaire, where you can answer questions for your Practitioner to review. If you have a preferred Practitioner to review your Medical Certificate request you can select them here, otherwise any available Practitioner can review your request.
If you are not successful, you will see a failure page that prompts you to contact your GP directly, as your request is not suitable for a telehealth request. If this is an emergency, please dial 000 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
If you are successful, you are asked to enter your personal and contact details and payment details. While you enter your payment details when you make a request, you are not charged for your Medical Certificate until your request is approved. If it either expires or is rejected, you do not incur a fee.
Once these details are submitted and approved, you will see a success page. Depending on the outcome of your request, you will either receive a rejection email or an approval email. The approval email will have the Medical Certificate attached as a PDF for you to download and use as required. In addition, you will also receive a separate email with your payment confirmation for your records.
What does my Medical Certificate look like?
The request will be emailed to you, and attached to that email as a separate PDF. You will be able to see which Practitioner approved your request.
Are New Patients eligible to request a Medical Certificate?
Unfortunately, practices cannot use the Healthengine Medical Certificate product to offer Medical Certificates to New Patients at that practice. If you wish to obtain a Medical Certificate from this practice, you will need to book a consultation instead.
How much does it cost?
The price varies based on what the Practice sets the cost at. There is also a transaction fee included in the total to help Healthengine and the Practice cover the cost of the process.
Can I claim a Medicare rebate?
No. These types of telehealth Medical Certificates requests are not eligible for a Medicare rebate.
Will you take payment if I don't get a Medical Certificate?
No. Payment is only taken when the Practitioner has seen and approved your request. This will require you to ensure there are enough funds on your card to cover the cost of the request, as the approved Medical Certificate will not be sent until the funds have been successfully collected.
How long do I have to wait to get sent a Medical Certificate?
In order to ensure that you get your Medical Certificate in a timely fashion, there is a 12-hour window for the request to be approved. At the end of the 12-hour window, you will either have received your approved Medical Certificate and a receipt, or you will receive an email saying your request was not successful, giving you time to either book an appointment or obtain a Medical Certificate elsewhere.
Can I have a backdated Medical Certificate?
Our online request form for a Medical Certificate can only be issued for the day that it is requested. Practitioners cannot approve or backdate Medical Certificates. If you require a Medical Certificate for multiple days, we recommend booking a consultation with your GP.
