Healthengine has a feature that allows for practices to skip collection of payment on appointment types that are eligible for concession or bulk billed patients. Healthengine allows you to select which appointment types you have this setting on, so you can customise which appointment types are using this feature.
Setting up skip payment in Practice Admin
- Navigate to Healthengine's Practice Admin, and scroll down to the Account & Help section, and click the "Skip Payment Configuration" section
- Here you can select which concession cards and which age criteria your practice wants to configure for bulk billing
- Note: the settings are practice wide, but can be applied on individual appointment types as you choose. This means that if you only want existing patients - standard consult to have the option to skip payment, you can do so.
- Make sure to click save once you've edited your settings
- Once the setting for your practice has been set up, you now need to select which appointment types this applies too. To do this, navigate to the Appointment types in the bookings section
- Choose the appointment type you want to have this apply for, and click the edit three dots on the right, and in the dropdown select edit payment details
- Within the pop-up, at the bottom, turn the toggle to ON (teal showing) to enable this feature for this appointment type
- Click save
- You will then be prompted to apply this setting (including payment method and price) to any other appointment types
- Click skip or save again
Patient Experience (Age Criteria)
The patient experience for the bulk billing / skip payment feature is largely the same for a standard payment enabled booking. Patients who are in your predefined age ranges (for example under 16 or over 65) are able to skip payment in this flow.
- The patient selects their appointment type, which has the price normally applied still showing in case they aren't eligible for skipping payment
- The patient can then enter their personal details. At this stage, if age related criteria are applied, and the patient passes that check, the patient will then need to confirm if they have a medicare card or not
- As long as the user has a medicare card and meets the age requirements they are then shown the "skipped payment" page, otherwise they proceed to payment as normal
Patient Experience (Card Type Criteria)
The patient experience for the bulk billing / skip payment feature is largely the same for a standard payment enabled booking. Patients who have eligible card types are able to skip payment in this flow.
- The patient selects their appointment type, which has the price normally applied still showing in case they aren't eligible for skipping payment
- The patient then proceeds through the flow as normal, until they reach the healthcare and concession card page. This page only shows when the appointment type has this setting configured.
- The patient then can enter their details and choose which card (if any) they have. They are required to tick a confirmation checkbox as well if they have other healthcards to ensure one is not selected in error
- If eligible based on their card type, they are shown the payment notice page. If they are not eligible, they proceed to payment like normal.
